Michael Kors vs Prada
Recently I wrote a post about why I regretted purchasing a luxury handbag which you can read about here.
Even though the Prada Saffiano Gardner's Tote Bag caused me quite a deal of unnecessary stress, the functionality suited me quite well which meant finding another bag similar with a structure.
Since I've been on the hunt for a new bag I've auditioned several contenders but none of them were quite right. One was shockingly heavy and another didn't hold all of my stuff. I was about to give up the hunt when I came across the Michael Kors Savannah Large Saffiano Leather Satchel. With a sticker price of $368, some might consider this luxury but compared to the Prada Saffiano Gardner's Tote Bag in Gray ($2100) it's a much more wallet-friendly option for most.
Below I've posted several side by side photos for comparison.
As you can see the bags are almost identical. Both are Saffiano Leather which makes for more durability and easier maintenance. The Prada has measurements of 8 1/2"H x 13"W x 5"D; weighing 2lbs 2oz and the Michael Kors comes in at 10H" x 14W" x 6D" (no weight provided). Both come with adjustable cross body straps which is great for hands-free shopping. The Prada Gray versus the Micheal Kors Cement is slightly lighter in tone but is still neutral which is what I was looking for. The biggest difference, besides the cost, between the two bags is the interior design. While the Prada only houses 1 open pocket and 1 zip compartment, the Michael Kors offers 4 open pockets and a zip compartment. Also the center zip compartment while slightly rounder in shape offers a lot more room to store items.
Overall I'm quite happy with my purchase. It's both functional and aesthetically pleasing but most importantly I no longer feel stressed toting around a handbag that costs more than my mortgage.
What do you take into consideration when looking for a handbag? Is cost or functionality more important? Let me know in the comments below.
